i was on the train yesterday and i saw a girl wearing red and white, waving the singapore flag, humming the national anthem.
this morning, i woke up to the national day song "we are singapore"
there was some carnival near my place and there were 200plus people at the open space in front of my house, majority primary school kids.
and as they reach the chorus, i saw kids jumping up and down waving the lil flags in their hands frantically.. and at this moment, my heart goes out to them.
cuz when they grow up, they will learn that the nation they loved so much, they adored and believed in, is not perfect. they will be hit by the reality that the society has no place for them if they are not smart enough, rich enough, cool enough, sociable enough and hyprocritical enough. they will be squeezed dry by bills, taxes and debts. they will have to slog hard to make ends meet.
they change to adapt to their environment.
where circumstances drive some to turn their backs on their love ones.
and till a time when they can trust no one...

my dearest nation, please give our kids some breathing space.
